Description
Jameson whiskey was founded by John Jameson back in 1780 and from generation to generation, passed on his legacy of making his exceptional Irish whiskey to the world that you would find on your local store shelves today.
Consequently, as time progressed, so has the desire to venture and explore new flavors, all the while keeping John Jameson’s craft and quality of his Irish whiskey intact, 240 years after its launch.
As you can imagine, producing a blended Irish whiskey that has been around for over two centuries, requires dedication and loyalty, but as explained by the company themselves, “Don’t worry, we’ve distilled over 200 years of courage, craft and a collective appreciate for taste, into one short account.”
Jameson IPA Edition was first launched in 2013 with the cooperation of a local craft brewery of whom Jameson began swapping tout beer barrels with, which has been the foundation of their creation of the Jameson Caskmates IPA (Irish Pale Ale) Edition and have remained in use after discovering the invigorating taste the IPA barrels provide.
Their triple distillation process, aged oak barrels and combination of both malted and unmalted barley, along with the finest grain whiskey is what helps to create the smoothness that Jameson consumers have become accustomed too.
The aroma that the IPA Edition provides are warm and crisp with a subtle hint of fruit that has been reported to give a finish that is short and unique.
Alongside the floral, herbal hops and grapefruit citrus notes of this whiskey are wood shavings and an inkling of nut with some delicate spicy tones therefore making Jameson Caskmates IPA in a category all its own.
While said to not have enough complexity to be a sipping whiskey, it certainly has a lot more going for it than your typical Jameson that works well in things like “Irish Mules” where the ginger beer and lime balance out the sweet apple notes. Furthermore, the saltiness of the Jameson Caskmates IPA really stands out and provides such a cocktail as the Irish Mule, an interesting twist.
Other refreshing cocktails in which Jameson IPA Edition can be blended with are tonic and lemon, Classic IPA Old Fashion, and a surprisingly delightful take on the traditional whiskey sour.
